What is homeostasis?

Homeostasis, perfect balance
© Woodleywonderworks

Homeostasis is balance.

It’s perfect balance of all systems in your body — biological harmony and purity.

Homeostasis is when your body is totally on top of its house-keeping.

Total order…

It’s an abundance of inner resources for the amazing intelligence that is your body to do its thing.

That’s why kids are usually so joyful. They have very little emotional baggage or wrong ideas and they have high vitality, inner resources, inner purity — homeostasis.

It’s a beautiful concept… Continue reading “What is homeostasis?”

Avoid pain by being proactive

Two girls thumbs up!
Feeling good!

Chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer and diabetes — the diseases that are causing the most suffering, are actually called lifestyle diseases.

The statistics are frightening: 1 in 10 are depressed, 1 in 3 obese, and autism now impacts 1 in 88 children. 1,500 Americans die from cancer every single day.

Every chronic disease state has many causes, with every one being sub-optimal lifestyle over a long time frame.

The same causes manifest in different diseases depending on the personal interplay of genetics and causes. Some of these are:

  • Consumption of vegetables oils high in omega-6. The combination of polyunsaturated fats with sugar is very damaging e.g. fries and coke.
  • Not enough omega-3.
  • Excess carbohydrates.
  • Excess calories.
  • Sugar and white flour.
  • Mineral deficiencies, particularly low levels of protective magnesium and iodine.
  • Vitamin deficiencies — vitamin C, needed for the integrity of the blood vessel walls, and of antioxidants like selenium and vitamin E, which protect us from free radicals. Vitamins A, B12 and K2 are deficient in most people.
  • Lack of antimicrobial fats from animal fats and tropical oils.
  • Toxins from food and chemicals in our environment.
  • Not enough sunshine causing vitamin D deficiency.
  • Not enough exercise.
  • Stress.
  • Anti-nutrients especially in grains cause gut inflammation and damage villi which means poor nutrient absorption. This is a key cause of autoimmune diseases.
  • Food deplete of its natural nutrition because of industrial agriculture.

If chronic disease is caused by these factors and more over a long time frame, it’s very clear to see that drugs cannot heal, cannot correct these causes.

Cause and effect

If we stick our hand in the fire it burns, the cause and effect is obvious. But the damage from sub-optimal lifestyle is delayed and unclear. By the time we get sick, it can be hard to connect the dots.

And the human body is amazingly resilient, for example, liver function can be reduced to a small amount of its optimal and you wouldn’t have any symptoms. And often the first appearance of heart problems is a fatal heart attack.

Beware your own vitality

I know that sounds very strange — to beware of vitality, the very thing we want. But your own vitality can very easily lead you into a false sense of security. Your own vitality can make you think you’re fine when really, your current lifestyle could be chipping away at your health bit by bit.

Being chronically ill is a nightmare on so many levels. Please don’t go there. By being proactive you can keep your health bank account topped up and give your body what it naturally needs. It’s a lot simpler than you might imagine once you get into the right habits.

© Thalita Carvalho

Our moods can be changed instantly by another…

Have you ever passed someone scary-looking in the street and suddenly your whole insides tense up? Your mood can change to FEAR in an instant because of another.

Everything affects everything else

Health warning signs

© Ashley Rose

This is an important one because small niggly symptoms are easily lived with. We can easily get used to them so that we don’t even notice them so much.

And then when they worsen that little bit, the difference is so slight that we easily live with that too. And so it goes on. It’s like a drip, drip damaging effect on your health.

But these little niggles are signs of a body in distress. They are a “warning light” — a sign that most often means your lifestyle is not maintaining your health.

Often I hear things like “He was perfectly OK before he had the heart attack.” The perception is that something just broke. But that is never the case. Health or disease is the result of decades of lifestyle “choices.” Continue reading “Health warning signs”

How to stop being negative

Jane asks…

“I am struggling at the moment. I’m having trouble with controlling my thoughts. I’ve developed a habit of thinking negatively which is so unlike me but I can’t seem to stop.

And I’m starting to feel that I am projecting negative energy even though I am trying so hard to stay positive. And we all know negative energy just attracts more negative energy. I’m not a positive affirmations sort of girl so I’ve only tried them half heartedly: the negative voice in my head just shouts them down.

I think the main problem is that I feel incredibly lonely, even though I have wonderful friends and family who I know are there for me. I don’t have a partner at the moment and haven’t for a couple of years and I’m at that stage where everyone else around me seems to be moving forward: buying houses, getting married, having babies while I feel like I’m in some sort of holding pattern.

I feel unfulfilled and like I’m drifting through life without a purpose. At the end of the day isn’t loving someone and being loved what life is all about?”

“Negative energy attracts more negative energy” — it’s great you’ve got that clarity, we can work with that.

First of all I’d say “Stay focused on your lifestyle” and getting the six lifestyle elements bedded in as good habits so you’re flying along.

A happy body makes for a happy mood and when your biochemistry is in the fantastic to utterly amazing range, it’s hard to feel bad! :-)

Love and be loved yes, and the more you are in your “YOU” space, the closer you are to love and the more you love everybody and everything. And with love being the ultimate in good feelings, that’s going to attract awesome stuff to you. So where to go from here…

Keep doing the good stuff in terms of lifestyle as I said and now work on your mind. Continue reading “How to stop being negative”

How to get rid of worry, stress and chaos

Free of stress and worry
© Dan Foy

What’s your best moment to moment focus? The answer is “THE LIST” — specifically your Regular Actions List…

How to get things done

Woody Allen famously said “99% of success is showing up.” When you dance through your Regular Actions List, you regularly show up for all those things that need your attention.

The result of this is not restriction but FREEDOM. Freedom from worry about the little things and freedom from the chaos that results from unfocused activity. The List frees your mind to enjoy the moment because the List HOLDS your life together in the most efficient way possible… Continue reading “How to get rid of worry, stress and chaos”

How to break bad habits — checklist

Pen and paper
© Lucas

Bad habits are tricky! This “trickiness” is why the bad habits section in Happy Guide is short, so you can read it as many times as you need to get absolutely clear on HOW to do it…

Creating new good habits is much easier because you have a blank canvas.

With your bad habits, you’re trying to redirect your attention to stop them playing out. Repeat this a few times and soon you have a new habit. Stopping yourself doing bad things is critical so you need to get really clear. Before you begin, check that you…

  • Understand the pink elephant problem — to not think about a pink elephant you have to think about something else. Keep your mind OFF it and ON something else.
  • Know your finish line and your next step.
  • Have picked a step that’s not too far outside your comfort zone.
  • Have made your step into a pact that feels CLEAR and UNSHAKABLE. Have a simple pact with a minimum of ifs, buts or maybes.
  • Have dropped “The Problem” by getting clear that the process is weekly tweaks.
  • Understand that any form of “backlash” is ignored, you ride it out because the decision is made (cravings and thoughts typically only last a few seconds if you ignore them).

Keep on reading the “Break Bad Habits” section in Happy Guide until you OWN it :-) Once you’re clear and feel unstoppable… begin, follow through and start getting WINS! Good luck!

How to overcome ME/CFS

© B Rosen

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS, CFIDS or ME) is a very serious disease. It’s had very little attention from the scientific research world until recently.

This is despite the fact that ME/CFS is fifteen times more widespread than the polio epidemic was at its height.

I got sick with ME/CFS at age 22 (46 now). At age 22 I felt 90. I had glandular fever age 11 and my health deteriorated after that. This is about what finally worked for me and gave me some energy after thirteen years in hell as a zombie…

Tips for healing ME/CFS naturally…

The only thing that worked for me was supporting the body, mind and soul… Continue reading “How to overcome ME/CFS”

Your lifestyle blueprint

A lifestyle blueprint for happiness
© Danika Pierce

If you want to build a house, you don’t start by calling the brick layer!

With house building it’s obvious you need to start with a plan but with your health and happiness; not so obvious :-)

Lots of people have figured out that a certain thing makes them feel much better. It could be running, meditation or whatever — and they do that thing in heaps.

But it’s uncommon to find someone who understands the BIG PICTURE, who acts on the truth — that “everything affects everything else.” Continue reading “Your lifestyle blueprint”
